Tempering valves blend hot and cold water, in your hot water system, to maintain a safe and consistent temperature at your faucet. They’re responsible for making sure the water that comes out of your taps is not too hot, not too cold, but just right – like Goldilocks’ porridge!

When working correctly these valves are crucial for making sure no one in your household gets a nasty surprise when they take their morning shower!

Issues with Tempering Valves

Often issues can crop up, here are a few things to look out for:

    • Temperature Fluctuations: Sometimes, you might notice your shower going from hot to cold or vice versa. This inconsistency can be a real mood-killer, especially when you’re trying to relax.
    • Leaks and Drips: Nobody likes a dripping faucet, right? Leaky tempering valves can waste water and lead to higher bills.
    • Scaling and Buildup: Over time, mineral deposits can accumulate within the valve, affecting its performance. This can lead to less efficient temperature control.
    • Maintenance Neglect: Like any superhero, tempering valves need a little love too. Neglecting regular maintenance can lead to problems down the line.

We’d love to tell you how to fix your valves however, in these circumstances it’s best if we show you.

Most of the fixes will require turning off your hot water system, removing the valve and giving it a good clean; adding a descaling solution to prevent mineral build up; maintenance; fixing the leaks caused by worn-out washer or loose connections; or replacements.
